Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan, here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking at look at the Jeep trailer hitch cover. So when it comes to accessories for Jeeps, the amount of choices are pretty much endless. And that's definitely understandable because Jeeps can be really fun to customize and make your own. And the hitch cover is going to be no different. So this is going to keep the inside of your hitch protected and add a touch of style.
And that's important because whenever you want to use those hitch mounted accessories like a cargo carrier, bike rack, maybe you're putting a ball mount in there to tow a trailer, whenever you remove the cover, the inside of your hitch is going to be like new and in good shape, and you're not going to have to fight any rust or corrosion issues inside. So now that we've seen what it looks like inside of the hitch, let's go ahead and take it out so we can have a better look at the cover itself. Now I want to mention it does not come included with a hitch pin to keep it in place, however, the one reason today I really like, it's the etrailer.com stainless locking hitch pin. And since it locks, we're not going to have to worry about someone pulling our regular pin out and running off with our cover, so definitely I would recommend picking up a locking hitch pin. So I'll go ahead and pull that out of the way. And it's really straightforward.
We'll simply just pull it right out.And so with it now you can kind of see why it's going to help prevent that rust. This is going to fill that void that your hitch would have without it. So when this is in there it sits up nice and flush, really prevents that dirt and debris and a lot of water from getting inside, and that's really the whole purpose of it. Now, if a little bit of water or moisture or something like that does get inside, we don't have to worry about our hitch cover getting destroyed. And that's because it's made from stainless steel.
So really high quality. It's going to last a long time. Now the cover is designed to work with two inch by two inch hitches, but I want to say that not all hitches are the same. Some of the hitches pin hole could be a little bit further back or a little bit further forward, and that's what these cutouts are here for. So right when you look at it, it looks a little off, but the reason that they're like that is to accommodate for those different pinhole locations. So if your pin hole is a little bit further back, you're able to use this one, a little closer, this one, and really close, this one.
So chances are really good this covers going to work with whatever hitch you have on your Jeep.I will say probably one of the first things I noticed about this is how heavy it is. It's going to be really solid. Like I said, it's made from stainless so it's not going to be fancy and fall apart. The face of it here is a really thick, almost solid plastic material, so really heavy duty compared to some of the other hitch covers where they're thin plastic. The whole thing is they get brittle over time and they ended up falling apart. I really don't see that being the case with this one even if we put it in the hitch. I'll put a pretty substantial amount of pressure on it and you can see it is barely even flexing at all. So if maybe you're shopping cart we're to bump into it, or maybe one of the kiddos rides their bikes and hits it, you're not going to have to worry about this falling apart. Now a lot of the Jeeps that we've had in the shop at least in my experience, at least the late model ones, tend to have a black plastic bumper like this. And kind of just holding it up, I noticed that if you pair the two together they almost match identical. So pretty cool there, it's just nice to have everything blend together and almost look factory.Another thing I noticed if we put this into the hitch, and this is going to vary a little bit depending on your exact hitch and hitch pin, but something worth mentioning. If I take my pin and just run that through, kind of just hold it tight, there is a little bit of movement in there. But I really don't see you being able to hear that especially if you're going over a bump or something big enough for this to rattle around, I think you would hear your suspension reacting more so than this just rattling a little bit, but something I just wanted to point out. So at the end of the day, it's not just a hitch cover. It's a cool way to separate your Jeep from some of the other ones out on the road and make it your own. And that'll finish up our look at of the Jeep trailer hitch cover..

Would have been cleaner looking if you didn't see the pop rivets.

I would say that it is normal for the hitch cover to not come with the hitch pin or hitch pin lock. There are some that do here and there but not many. We do our best to mention this on the product page. I recommend using a lock with hitch covers like part # e98881.
